In poker some of the best strategies would be the ones that would not be very obvious. Here are a few strategies that would work out nicely if used at the right time.

Strategy 1:

Most players are always confused about when to re raise a bet in hopes of increasing the pot and reducing the number of opponents. What works well is re raising bets frequently even on medium strong cards when the stronger opponents still have to act and the weaker players have already taken their turn. This would increase your profit because it would force the weaker players to call once again and it would intimidate the strong players who would otherwise call the raise their stronger hands.

Trying to thin the number of opponents playing against you might turn out to be a costly affair because several times in doing so you would scare away the opponents who have weaker hands and you would only be left against those players who have stronger hands than yours.

Strategy 2:

Only in rare cases you must re raise a bet with medium strong cards when the stronger opponents have already called and the weaker ones still have to take their turn. This would scare away your weaker opponents and you would have to play against players with stronger hands.

Strategy 3:

There are only a few basic reasons for re raising a bet. Either re raise when you are trying to scare away your opponents when you are not in a favorable position or to win a larger pot when you have strong hands. You might do it to bluff or to send across a message that you have a strong hand or to make the most of your position. Except for these reasons you should never re raise a bet.

Strategy 4:

When you have a very strong hand, do not re-raise. This would make your opponents to fold and that would mean that you wouldn’t benefit much. To make more profits you must just call to encourage your opponents to play against you and bet.

Strategy 5:

At times it is a good idea to call on a bet when there is only one opponent playing against you and keep calling till you see the final card with only an over card and a straight draw. But, you should refrain from doing this when two suited cards flop until and unless you have an ace of that same suit. Having an ace would be beneficial since if both the last cards are of the same suit then you would have a higher flush and it isn’t very likely that your opponent would have a flush draw. When you have an ace it’s a good reason for going ahead with suited hands.

Strategy 6:

When you are playing a seven card stud you must not be afraid to place a bet on a three of a kind or a two big pair on the river since it might turn out to be a straight or a flush draw. In most situations the opponents hand would be something else and the flush or the straight would altogether be missed. Anyways the opponent might decide to call no matter what his secondary strength is. If you place a bet in most cases you would never be raised so it is well worth taking that risk.

Strategy 7:

Except for the last round of betting if you have a medium strong hand you must raise the bet when you think you have secured the last position or you think you would be able to scare away the other players behind you to get the last position.
