The World Series of Poker has been in existence since 1968 and has been one of the most important tournaments in the world. The Place

WSOP has been switching locations over the years and it first began at Reno at the Holiday Casino and Hotel. Two years later it shifted to the Binion’s Horseshoe to Las Vegas and now its current location is The Rio Hotel and Casino off The Vegas Strip.

The tournaments

In a short span of six weeks there are 55 poker tournaments that place at this event making it difficult for the fans to keep track of it. The largest event is the Main Event which is the last one to be held and it takes place over a period of fourteen days. At present, due to the ESPN TV coverage the last two days of the event are moved to November from July. Another prestigious event is the HORSE which only includes some of the best players in the world and is a combination of various poker games. The remaining events are plenty of Hold’em tournaments, Omaha and other forms of poker tournaments.

The Buy-in

For WSOP the buy ins are different depending on the tournament. For the main event the buy in is $10000 which is quite a large amount. While a normal Hold’em tournament at the even would have a buy in of $1000. The most expensive tournament is the HORSE where the buy in is a whooping $50,000.

The Prize and pools

The pools and the prizes too vary according to the event. The main event prize fluctuates depending on the number of people who participate. The highest amount of money to be won at the main event of WSOP was $12 million and it was won by Jamie Gold. Some of the smaller tournaments would have a top prize of around $100,000. Anyone who wins an event at the WSOP would also get a gold bracelet no matter how much amount they won and the bracelet in itself is quite prestigious.
