People who forget their past mistakes are deemed to repeat them in the future. The case is the same even in poker. When you come across a situation where you have played a bad game you must remember it and learn from your mistake. When you play poker there would be several mistakes that you would make and most of them would cost you a lot of money too. But if you want to improve you would have to learn what you did wrong and play it differently the next time a situation like that comes.

There would be plenty of situations in which you would think that your opponents are weak players based on how they have been playing at the table so far. This would encourage you to play boldly and recklessly, you would bet more often rise too much and bluff a lot only to realize in the end that it didn’t work out for you.

Be attentive

Take an example where you have a 4 2 and the flop reveals A 3 4. There is hardly any money in the pot and the hand gets checked by all the players. At the turn there is a 5 and the guy next to you puts in a bet which you call and one player puts in a large bet of $90. The first one who raised it in the first place calls. You see that there is no possibility for a flush on the board so you put it all in which would be called by the first player.

You would have probably thought at the moment that what possibly could both the other players have? At the most it could be same as yours and it would be a tie. They wouldn’t have called and put it all in if they didn’t have good cards when there was a possibility of a straight but then what would they have to put it all in?

Don't hesitate to fold

You would have thought that they would have the same hand as yours so cant win the pot all by yourself but at least you can get a share of it. When the cards are revealed you would come to know that the first player has a 6 7, a higher straight than you have and gets the large pot. Your mistake had been that you never considered this possibility.

In a situation like this you must move on but realize that in such cases when there is very little to gain and a lot to loose it is better to just fold and not take the risk. As you practice more and play more you would come across several tough situations like these. Though you would make a lot of mistakes you would gain from them too.
